Alexander Inn tops Knox Heritage's "Endangered Heritage" list

East Tennessee Preservation Alliance has announced for the first time a list of locations around East Tennessee that are identified as endangered parts of the area's heritage.
The Alexander Inn tops the list. The same day that list was released, a judge in Oak Ridge was due to hear the rehabilitation plan put together by the Oak Ridge Revitalization Effort, a nonprofit that recently purchased the troubled property. That hearing has been reset for a later date.
The full list:
  1. Alexander Inn-Anderson County
  2. The Martin Mansion-Blount County
  3. Old Lafollette Post Office-Campbell County
  4. Graham Kivett House-Claiborne County
  5. Gilleland Odell House-Cocke County
  6. Abandoned Rural Schoolhouses-Grainger County
  7. Morristown College-Hamblen County
  8. Quaker Valley-Jefferson County
  9. Central Business District of Lenoir City-Loudon County
  10. Boyhood Home of Estes Kefauver-Monroe County
  11. Brushy Mountain State Correctional Complex-Morgan County
  12. Roane County-Emory Gap Cemetery
  13. New Salem Baptist Church-Sevier County
  14. J. Will Taylor House-Union County
The properties named on the list are nominated by members of the ETPA and members of the public.
Being named to the list means the ETPA will come up with a preservation strategy, involving the current owners, government officials, citizens and/or potential new owners.
